Hair Styles for Brunettes

The possibilities are endless when it comes to hair styles for brunettes. Of course, deciding on the hair style that best complements your face shape and hair texture can be tricky and a trial-and-error process. Whether you are looking for a permanent hair style change or a fancy up-do for special event, brunettes have plenty of options.

Long Hair

Brunettes with long hair have a plethora of styles to choose from, although face shape plays an important role in that choice. A brunette with a full face could benefit from a hair style that emphasizes angles instead of roundness. Shoulder-length hair with bangs cut in an angular fashion across the face, or a sweeping bang, will cause the face to appear less round. If the brunette already has a slender face, bangs are not as crucial an issue and full hair with curls can be a fun way to drawl attention to the face. Brunettes can achieve a look with curls or waves by using a curling iron or by braiding hair when wet and allowing to dry before removing the braids.

Short Hair

Brunettes with a daring streak can cut off long locks for a short pixie cut. This look is best on women with thin or delicate facial features and should be avoided if the woman has a round face. A pixie cut is easy to take care, a pro for any woman who does not enjoy spending hours in front of a mirror. A bob cut is also a fun, low-maintenance hair style. Brunettes looking for a dramatic cut may be encouraged to consider a bob. This edgy, angled haircut dates back to the 1920s and has always allowed women to stand out in a crowd of longer hair styles.

Up-dos

Wedding days and special events such as prom can warrant a fancier hair style. Wrapping the brunette's hair into a twisted bun with ringlets layering the face is a classic and elegant style which works well with most face shapes. Inserting a flower or clip can add style. For a brunette with naturally curly hair, pin back the curls with bobby pins at the top of the neck for a wavy up-do that is elegant and yet not as conventional as a bun. Another classic up-do for brunettes is the pony tail, perfect for work or a day out in the city with friends.
